Standing Up Against Sexual Extortion
Many of you have probably seen the news out of Wyandotte County of a Democratic nominee for the Kansas House and his history of sexual extortion against his peers, who were women under 18. During my first two years in office, I was dismayed to find out how loose the laws in Kansas are regarding sexual extortion. That is why during the 2020 Session I was proud to co-sponsor HB2546, which would have created the crime of sexual extortion and add the crime to the Kansas offender registration act. While HB 2546 passed the house, it died in the senate due to time running out because of the Covid pandemic. Next year one of my first actions will be to reintroduce HB2546, because sexual extortion has no place in our state, or the Kansas Legislature.
